Agreement
By using patentgrep.com, the patentgrep API or the patentgrep MCP server, you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use patentgrep.
patentgrep is run by Caleb Fahlgren. Questions about these terms go to cfahlgren1@gmail.com.
The service
patentgrep offers search on patentgrep.com, an API (including endpoints compatible with PatentsView), and an MCP server that AI agents can connect to. We add, change and remove features over time.
Accounts and API keys
You sign in with Google to get an account and API keys. Keep your keys secret: you are responsible for everything done with them. If a key leaks, revoke it from your account and create a new one.
We may revoke keys or connections that are abused.
Free plan
The Free plan allows 1,000 requests a day and up to 10 requests a second per account. These limits cover all of the account's keys and MCP connections together, and the daily count resets at midnight UTC.
The Free plan is for personal, academic, research, evaluation and other non-commercial use. Commercial use means using the API or the MCP server:
- in a product or service you sell or offer to customers,
- in a company's internal tools or workflows, or
- for paid client work.
Commercial use needs a paid plan. Searching on patentgrep.com is free for everyone, including commercial users.
Paid plans
When billing opens, the Developer plan will cost $50 a month and includes commercial use. Enterprise plans are by agreement; email cfahlgren1@gmail.com to talk about one.
Prices and limits may change. We'll tell you before they do.
Acceptable use
When you use patentgrep, don't:
- try to get around rate limits or sign-in, for example by opening many accounts to multiply your quota;
- scrape the website to rebuild the dataset (use the API instead);
- resell or redistribute bulk API output as a competing dataset without an Enterprise agreement;
- use patentgrep for anything illegal, or attack or overload the service.
Data and content
Patent documents come from public USPTO data and are provided as they are. Company and technology class pages are derived from that data.
Company logos are trademarks of their owners. We show them only to identify the company, and they come from Wikimedia Commons.
Search results, summaries and data can be incomplete or wrong. patentgrep is not legal advice: don't rely on it alone for legal decisions such as freedom to operate or validity.
AI agents
You are responsible for what your AI agents do with your keys or MCP connections. MCP calls count toward your plan's limits, the same as API requests.
Availability
We work to keep patentgrep fast and available, but the Free and Developer plans come with no uptime guarantee. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
patentgrep is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including that it is accurate, complete, available or fit for a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, patentgrep is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or data. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update the date at the top. For material changes we also email account holders before they take effect. See also the privacy policy.
