Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for the heat treatment of metallic workpieces, in particular for their thermochemical carbonitriding, and to a workpiece produced using this method. The method is particularly suitable for hardening low-alloy workpieces, for increasing their tempering resistance after heat treatment and for increasing the mechanical load-bearing capacity of metallic components, such as transmission components, engine components or hydraulic components.

A method for the heat treatment of metallic workpieces comprising the steps in the order given:
- i) providing a metallic workpiece;
- ii) nitriding or nitrocarburizing the metallic workpiece;
- iii) low-pressure carburizing with quenching of the metallic workpiece or vacuum neutral hardening with quenching of the metallic workpiece.
