Electrical busway joint with self-adjusting braces

A busway joint coupling a first busway section and a second busway section, said busway joint comprising:

• a first assembly coupled to the first busway section;
• a second assembly coupled to the second busway section, said first and said second movable assemblies configured to move relative to each other between a collapsed position and an extended position;
• a plurality of conductors coupled to said first and said second assemblies;
• a first movable brace positioned between said first assembly and said second assembly, wherein said first movable brace is coupled to said plurality of conductors and is configured to move longitudinally along a length of said plurality of conductors;
• and
• a first brace locator coupled to said first movable brace, said first brace locator configured to locate said first movable brace at a first position when said first assembly is in the extended position.

A method for assembling a busway system that includes a first busway section, a second busway section disposed longitudinally offset from the first busway section, and a busway joint, said method comprising:

• coupling the first busway section to a first assembly of the busway joint, the busway joint movable between a collapsed position and an extended position;
• adjusting a length of the busway joint, wherein a brace locator of the busway joint is configured to locate a movable brace of the busway joint positioned between the first assembly and a second assembly of the busway joint at a first position when the busway joint is in the extended position;
• and
• coupling the second busway section to the second assembly of the busway joint.
