Abstract
A photoluminescent panel includes a lower substrate, an upper substrate facing the lower substrate, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the lower substrate and the upper substrate, and a color conversion layer disposed on the upper substrate. The color conversion layer includes a light excitation particle which absorbs light having a desired wavelength and emits excited light, and a scattering particle which scatters the excited light.

A photoluminescent panel comprising:
- a lower substrate;
- an upper substrate facing the lower substrate and comprising a plurality of color areas spaced apart from each other by a gap therebetween;
- a liquid crystal layer between the lower substrate and the upper substrate;
- and
- a color conversion layer on the upper substrate, and comprising:
- a reflection wall provided in plural to define pairs of adjacent reflection walls among which first pairs of adjacent reflection walls define the color areas therebetween;
- and
- a flattening layer commonly disposed between each pair of adjacent reflection walls, the flattening layer comprising a base material layer in which a light excitation particle which absorbs light having a desired wavelength and emits excited light, and a scattering particle which scatters the excited light are distributed,
- wherein
- the light excitation particle is disposed in a portion of the base material layer of the flattening layer disposed between the first pairs of adjacent reflection walls which define the color areas therebetween,
- the scattering particle is disposed in the portion of the base material layer in which the light excitation particle is disposed, and
- a same base material layer including the portion of the base material layer in which the light excitation particle is disposed extends from between the first pairs of adjacent reflection walls to be disposed at the gap between color areas.
A photoluminescent liquid crystal display device comprising:
- a backlight unit which emits light having a desired wavelength;
- a first substrate on the backlight unit;
- a second substrate facing the first substrate and comprising a plurality of color areas spaced apart from each other by a gap therebetween;
- a liquid crystal layer between the first and the second substrates;
- and
- a color conversion layer on the second substrate, and comprising
- a reflection wall provided in plural to define pairs of adjacent reflection walls among which first pairs of adjacent reflection walls define the color areas therebetween;
- and
- a flattening layer commonly disposed between each pair of adjacent reflection walls, the flattening layer comprising a base material layer in which a light excitation particle which absorbs light having a desired wavelength and emits excited light, and a scattering particle which scatters the excited light are distributed,
A method of manufacturing a photoluminescent panel comprising:
- providing a light blocking pattern in plural to define pairs of adjacent light blocking patterns among which first pairs thereof define and a plurality of color areas spaced apart from each other with a gap therebetween, on a substrate;
- providing a flattening layer commonly disposed between each pair of adjacent light blocking patterns, the flattening layer comprising a base material layer,
- the providing a flattening layer comprising:
- providing a light excitation pattern between the first pairs of adjacent light blocking patterns which define the color areas therebetween, by disposing a light excitation particle which emits excited light having a desired color in a portion of the base material layer between the first pairs of adjacent light blocking patterns;
- providing a reflection member at opposing sides of each of the light excitation patterns and on a portion of the light excitation pattern exposed by the gap, the reflection member comprising pairs of adjacent reflection walls at the gap between adjacent color areas;
- and
- providing a scattering particle which scatters the excited light and is disposed in the portion of the base material layer in which the light excitation particle of the light excitation pattern is disposed,
- wherein a same base material layer which includes the portion of the base material layer in which the light excitation particle is disposed is on the reflection member at the gap between adjacent color areas.
