Pocket kits and methods for retrofitting and adapting common notebook computers, laptop computers, and tablet computers, to enable each to be used as an automated external defibrillator (AED), and as a manual defibrillator

A method for retrofitting an common computer with a defibrillator, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing an common computer;
• providing a responsive device for connecting to the computer, the responsive device including a defibrillator element, the defibrillator element including at least one cable and at least one electrode pad, the at least one cable and at least one electrode pad being located within a compartment in the responsive device;
• attaching the common computer to the responsive device;
• and
• electronically linking the computer to the defibrillator element in the responsive device, so that the computer controls the defibrillator element during use of the defibrillator element,
• wherein the step of electronically linking the computer to the defibrillator element involves providing software on the common computer or on the responsive device, so that the common computer is configured to control the defibrillator element during use of the defibrillator element.
