Projector

A projector comprising:

• a generation section that generates an OSD image;
• a combining section that generates a combined image in which the OSD image is superimposed on an input image;
• a light source section that outputs a light flux;
• a modulation section that modulates the light flux in accordance with the combined image to produce image light;
• a projection section that projects the image light;
• and
• a detection section that detects whether an optical member that changes an aspect ratio of the image light has been inserted into an optical path of the projection section,
• wherein
• when the detection section detects that the optical member has not been inserted, the generation section generates the OSD image to have a first OSD aspect ratio, and
• when the detection section detects that the optical member has been inserted, the generation section generates the OSD image to have a second OSD aspect ratio different from the first aspect ratio.
