A lighting device for a motor vehicle, the lighting device comprising at least one light source for emitting light and at least one plate-shaped light conductor-made in form of a block optics, the light conductor including two boundary surfaces which run opposite towards each other, a totally reflective side surface, which extends over part of the intermediate area, and which consists of a light coupling-out area, which extends over one other part of the intermediate area between the boundary surfaces, whereby a coupling-in section is formed on at least one of the boundary surfaces, wherein light from the at least one light source is coupled into the block optics and is deflected into the layer of the block optics, and where the coupled-in light is emitted via the light coupling-out area, wherein the lighting device includes at least one substantially rod-shaped light conductor with a light output area which extends along the longitudinal extension of the light conductor in addition to the at least one block optics, wherein said rod-shaped light conductor is constructed as one integral element along with the block optics and wherein said light coupling-out area of the block optics and said light output area of the rod-shaped light conductor together form a common output area of the overall lighting device, and wherein at least one additional light source is assigned to the at least one rod-shaped light conductor, for emitting light which is directly coupled into the at least one rod-shaped light conductor.
