Control for managing actuator output pressure applied to a torque transmitting mechanism of a multi-speed transmission

A method of delivering fluid pressure from a fluid source to a torque transmitting mechanism by an actuator, the method comprising:

• delivering a first fluid pressure to the torque transmitting mechanism by the actuator during an initial phase of applying the torque transmitting mechanism,
• determining that the initial phase has ended, and
• delivering second, third, and fourth fluid pressures different from one another to the torque transmitting mechanism by the actuator in response to determining that the initial phase has ended.
