Abstract
The flame-retarding properties of polymeric compositions are selectively enhanced, without adversely affecting other properties of these materials to any significant degree, by including in the compositions oligomeric urethanes with high bromine content.
Claims17
A flame-retardant urethane additive with the bromine content from 15% to 60% wt. and number-average molecular weight from 800 g/mol to 20,000 g/mol in the form of a dispersion in water, wherein said additive is characterized as derived from reacting one or more hydroxyl functional brominated monomers and a water-dispersability enhancing compound with an isocyanate to make a urethane flame retardant additive and wherein said one or more hydroxyl functional brominated monomers comprise tribromoneopentanol and/or dibromoneopentyl glycol.
