An electrosurgical system of modular elements for use in manipulating and cauterizing target tissue, comprising:
- a source of electrical energy configured to be electrically coupled to a first element of the modular elements, a second element of the modular elements, and a third element of the modular elements;
- the first element, wherein the first element comprises a first end configured to be positioned within a patient and a second end configured to be positioned outside of the patient, the first element comprising an elongate body that extends linearly straight over an entire length between the first end and the second end;
- and
- the second element, wherein the second element comprises a first end configured to be positioned within the patient and a second end configured to be positioned outside of the patient, the second element comprising an elongate body that extends linearly straight over an entire length between the first end and the second end, the second element being independently positionable with respect to the first element such that the elongate body of the first element and the elongate body of the second element are positionable at a plurality of angles relative to each other when both the first and the second elements are positioned within the patient;
- the third element, wherein the third element comprises a first end configured to be positioned within the patient and a second end configured to be positioned outside of the patient, the third element comprising an elongate body that extends linearly straight over an entire length between the first end and the second end, wherein the third element has a third surgical tool at its first end;
- wherein the first element has a first surgical tool at its first end comprising a micro-scissors tool, the second element has a second surgical tool at its first end comprising a suction cannula, and the third element has a third surgical tool at its first end comprising a micro-grasper tool, wherein the first, second, or third surgical tool is configured to form an electrical circuit and deliver electrical energy from the source of electrical energy to a target tissue of the patient upon completion of the electrical circuit;
- and
- wherein each of the first, second, and third elements has an electrical connector configured to be coupled to the source of electrical energy, and wherein each of the first, second, and third elements is configured to deliver the electrical energy from the source of electrical energy into the patient;
- wherein the first and second elements are sized and configured to manipulate the target tissue under direct visualization and to cauterize the target tissue by converging the first ends of the first and second elements into contact with the target tissue under direct visualization;
- wherein the system is configured such that:
- each of the first element, the second element, and the third element are interchangeably positionable within the patient;
- and
- only two of the first element, the second element, and the third element are electrically coupled to the source of electrical energy at a time.
