Abstract
The present invention provides an inbred corn line designated MFX7589, methods for producing a corn plant by crossing plants of the inbred line MFX7589 with plants of another corn plant. The invention further encompasses all parts of inbred corn line MFX7589, including culturable cells. Additionally provided herein are methods for introducing transgenes into inbred corn line MFX7589, and plants produced according to these methods.
Claims20
A seed of the maize plant MFX7589, a representative seed sample of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-13158.
A process of introducing a heritable trait into maize plant MFX7589 comprising:
- (a) crossing MFX7589 plants grown from MFX7589 seed, a representative seed sample of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-13158, with plants of another maize plant that comprise a desired trait to produce hybrid progeny plants, (b) selecting hybrid progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected hybrid progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the MFX7589 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of maize inbred plant MFX7589 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) at least three or more times to produce backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of maize inbred plant MFX7589 when grown in the same environmental conditions.
