Abstract
The present invention provides an inbred corn line designated FX8609, methods for producing a corn plant by crossing plants of the inbred line FX8609 with plants of another corn plant. The invention further encompasses all parts of inbred corn line FX8609, including culturable cells. Additionally provided herein are methods for introducing transgenes into inbred corn line FX8609, and plants produced according to these methods.
Claims20
A seed of the maize plant FX8609, a representative seed sample of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-13156.
A process of introducing a heritable trait into maize plant FX8609 comprising:
- (a) crossing FX8609 plants grown from FX8609 seed, representative seed sample of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-13156, with plants of another maize plant that comprise a desired trait to produce hybrid progeny plants, (b) selecting hybrid progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected hybrid progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the FX8609 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of maize inbred plant FX8609 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) at least three or more times to produce backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of maize inbred plant FX8609 when grown in the same environmental conditions.
