Chlorobis copper (I) complex compositions and methods of manufacture and use

A method of making an anhydrous copper complex having a chemical structure of Formula (I):

• comprising the steps of:
• a) adding an effective amount of nicotinic acid, ascorbic acid, and 90% aqueous ethanol to a container;
• b) applying heat to said container;
• c) stirring the contents of the container;
• d) adding cuprous chloride to the container;
• e) refluxing and stirring the contents of the container;
• f) cooling the contents of the container;
• g) filtering out the contents of the container;
• h) washing the filtered contents of the container with aqueous ascorbic acid;
• i) washing the filtered contents with 90% aqueous ethanol;
• j) washing the filtered contents with acetone;
• and
• k) drying the filtered contents;
• wherein the method is performed in an atmosphere consisting of an inert gas.
