Abstract
A bone plate for the stabilization of bones includes upper and lower surfaces extending along a central longitudinal axis. The lower surface is configured to contact a target portion of bone when in an operative configuration a through opening extending through the plate from the upper surface to the lower surface. The through opening is sized and shaped to receive a stabilization plate. The through opening has an elongated curved shape selected to conform to a cross-sectional shape of a proximal portion of the stabilization plate.
Claims18
A method for stabilizing a bone, comprising:
- positioning a bone plate over a target portion of bone, the bone plate including a first upper surface and a first lower surface extending along a central longitudinal axis, the first lower surface configured to contact the target portion of bone when the plate is in an operative configuration, the bone plate further including a first through opening extending through the bone plate from the first upper surface to the first lower surface, the first through opening having an elongated curved shape;
- fixing the bone plate to the bone by inserting bone fixation elements through the bone plate into the target portion of bone;
- inserting a first stabilization plate through the first through opening, a cross-sectional shape of the first stabilization plate forming an elongated curve corresponding to the shape of the first through opening;
- and
- rigidly fixing the first stabilization plate to the bone plate.
