Method to embed a light-weight kernel in a full-weight kernel to provide a heterogeneous execution environment

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing a program of instructions executable by a machine to perform a method of enabling a Light-Weight Kernel (LWK) to run in a virtualized environment on a Full-Weight Kernel (FWK), LWK providing higher performance scalability than the FWK and having less functionality than the FWK, the method comprising:

• replacing invoking of a FWK loader that dynamically loads and links application codes for execution, with invoking of a LWK library on a first hardware processor for an application allocated to run on one or more second hardware processors;
• enabling the LWK library to initialize said one or more second hardware processors and associated memory allocated to run the application under the LWK library;
• and
• enabling the LWK library to manage said one or more second hardware processors and said associated memory and resources needed by the application,
• wherein the LWK library is executed on the first hardware processor as a process within the FWK running on the first hardware processor,
• wherein the LWK library accesses data associated with one or more system calls and exceptions occurring in the application written from said one or more second hardware processors, to service said one or more system calls and exceptions from the first hardware processor by utilizing an FWK functionality.
