Method and system for buffer state based low power operation in a MoCA network

A system comprising:

• one or more circuits for use in a network coordinator device of a Multimedia Over Coax Alliance (MoCA) network, said one or more circuits being operable to, at least:
• communicate with a plurality of client devices of said MoCA network to control power-save operation of each of said client devices;
• and
• control said power-save operation of each of said client devices based on:
• an amount of data stored in a buffer, wherein said data stored in said buffer is destined for a first one of said client devices;
• a comparison of said amount of data stored in said buffer to a non-zero threshold, wherein said threshold is based on a priority of said first one of said client devices relative to one or more others of said client devices;
• and
• an amount of contention for bandwidth on said MoCA network among said client devices.
