Abstract
Methods for treating a disease condition in a subject are provided. The subject methods are characterizing by enhancing at least one symptom of the disease condition in a manner effective to cause the subject to mount a compensatory response effective to treat the disease condition. Also provided are compositions, kits and systems for practicing the subject methods.
Claims8
A method of treating a subject for hypertension, said method comprising
- enhancing at least one symptom of hypertension by applying electrical stimulus to sympathetic nerves of said subject;
- removing said stimulus to provide a holiday period which permits said subject to mount a compensatory response characterized by a decrease in said symptom;
- monitoring said compensatory response;
- and
- repeating said enhancing, removing, and monitoring in a manner effective to treat hypertension,
- wherein said stimulus is applied in a irregularly irregular manner and the duration of holiday periods varies randomly over the entire course of a treatment.
