Method and apparatus for transmitting control information in a wireless communication system

A user equipment configured to transmit a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) signal in a wireless communication system, the user equipment comprising:

• a radio frequency (RF) unit configured for transmitting information;
• and
• a processor configured for:
• modulating control information bits to generate N1 modulation symbols, wherein N1 is twice a number of subcarriers in one resource block (RB);
• spreading first N1/2 modulation symbols of the N1 modulation symbols by using a first orthogonal code to generate a first plurality of sequences, each sequence of the first plurality of sequences including the first N1/2 modulation symbols, the first orthogonal code having a spreading factor of 5;
• spreading second N1/2 modulation symbols of the N1 modulation symbols by using a second orthogonal code to generate a second plurality of sequences, each sequence of the second plurality of sequences including the second N1/2 modulation symbols;
• spreading the first N1/2 modulation symbols of the N1 modulation symbols by using a third orthogonal code to generate a third plurality of sequences, each sequence of the third plurality of sequences including the first N1/2 modulation symbols, the third orthogonal code having a spreading factor of 5;
• spreading the second N1/2 modulation symbols of the N1 modulation symbols by using a fourth orthogonal code to generate a fourth plurality of sequences, each sequence of the fourth plurality of sequences including the second N1/2 modulation symbols;
• transmitting the first and third plurality of sequences using a first slot of a subframe through different antenna ports, each sequence of the first and third plurality of sequences mapped on a corresponding single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) symbol in the first slot;
• and
• transmitting the second and fourth plurality of sequences using a second slot of the subframe through different antenna ports, each sequence of the second and fourth plurality of sequences mapped on a corresponding SC-FDMA symbol in the second slot.
