Abstract
In one aspect, a rechargeable lithium battery including an electrolyte for the rechargeable lithium battery is provided. The electrolyte for the rechargeable lithium battery includes: a non-aqueous organic solvent; a lithium salt; and a compound represented by Chemical Formula 1.

An electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery, comprising:
- a non-aqueous organic solvent;
- a lithium salt;
- and
- a compound represented by the following Chemical Formula 1:

- R1 to R12 are the same or different, and are each independently hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted C1 to C30 aliphatic organic group, a substituted or unsubstituted C3 to C30 alicyclic organic group, or a substituted or unsubstituted C6 to C30 aromatic organic group.

A rechargeable lithium battery, comprising:
- a positive electrode having a positive active material;
- a negative electrode having a negative active material;
- and
- an electrolyte comprising a non-aqueous organic solvent;
- a lithium salt;
- and a compound represented by the following Chemical Formula 1:
