Abstract
A drum type washing machine is provided. The washing machine may include a tub, a drum, a motor rotating the drum, bearing housings housing bearings to support a rotation shaft, a suspension connected to the bearing housings and a cabinet to mitigate vibration, a bracket coupled to the bearing housings, and a gasket installed between the bracket and the tub. Such an arrangement may allow volumes of the tub and the drum may be increased without increasing the volume of the cabinet.
Claims15
A drum type washing machine, comprising:
- a cabinet;
- a tub fixed to the cabinet, the tub holding washing fluid therein and having an opening formed at a front axial end of the tub for inserting laundry into the tub;
- a drum rotatably provided in the tub;
- a drive assembly positioned at a rear axial end of the tub, comprising:
- a shaft connected to a rear axial end of the drum;
- a motor that rotates the shaft;
- and
- a bearing housing coupled to the shaft so as to support rotation of the shaft;
- a bracket provided at the rear axial end of the tub and coupled to a front surface of the bearing housing;
- a gasket installed between the rear axial end of the tub and the bracket to prevent water inside the tub from leaking towards the driving assembly while allowing the bracket to move relative to the tub;
- and
- a suspension coupled to the bearing housing such that the suspension supports the drum within the tub, the drum being supported separately from the tub,
- wherein the suspension supports the drum and the driving assembly from a position below the drum.
