An isolated compound having the formula III

- R is —(CH2)kCOOH or —(CH2)kCOO(CmH2m+1) wherein k is 0-6 and m is 0-6.
A pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting hepatitis C virus protease, comprising effective amount of an isolated compound having the formula III
- wherein
- R is —(CH2)kCOOH or —(CH2)kCOO(CmH2m+1) wherein k is 0-6 and m is 0-6,
- and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
