Ink-jet recording material

An ink-jet recording material comprising:

• a support;
• and
• at least two ink-receiving layers of an ink-receiving underlayer and an ink-receiving top layer, wherein the ink-receiving underlayer and the ink-receiving top layer are disposed on the support and each comprises a pigment and a binder, wherein
• the ink-receiving top layer comprises a finely agglomerated pigment with an average particle diameter of 0.01 to 0.7 μm;
• and a coarse-grained pigment with an average particle diameter of 1.5 to 15 μm, in the amount of 1 to 15 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the finely agglomerated pigment,
• wherein the finely agglomerated pigment in the ink-receiving top layer is agglomerated fine particles comprising a silica and a cationic compound prepared by mixing a fumed silica with a cationic compound to obtain agglomerated particles comprising the silica and the cationic compound, followed by pulverizing and dispersing the agglomerated particles comprising the silica and the cationic compound to a particle size within the range of 0.01 to 0.7 μm,
• wherein the main component of the binder contained in the ink-receiving top layer is a polyvinyl alcohol;
• the ink-receiving top layer further comprises a compound that is cross-linkable with a polyvinyl alcohol;
• the pigment in the ink-receiving underlayer is a wet process silica and the binder in the ink-receiving underlayer is a latex binder;
• and
• the main component of the binder contained in the ink-receiving underlayer is an emulsion latex.
