Abstract
Oral dosage forms and methods for delivering effective amounts of erectile dysfunction medicaments to patients to provide rapid uptake of said agents through the mucosa of the oral cavity are disclosed.
Claims38
A fast onset pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- a water soluble matrix comprising an effective amount of a pharmaceutically active agent selected from the group consisting of sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil and their pharmacologically acceptable salts and an absorption enhancer having an HLB of about 8 to about 16,
- wherein the matrix is a film and the absorption enhancer is one or more sucrose fatty acid esters.
A method for mitigating erectile dysfunction in a patient comprising administering the oral unit dosage form as a water soluble matrix to the oral mucosal membranes of the mouth of a patient, which matrix contains, dispersed therein, a pharmaceutical agent selected from the group consisting of sildenafil, tadalafil, varenafil or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, said pharmaceutical agent being present in said matrix in an amount effective for combating said erectile dysfunction, said matrix composed of a one or more sucrose fatty acid esters having an HLB of about 8 to 16.
