Abstract
The present invention relates to flame retardant polymer compositions which comprise aminoguanidine phenylphosphinates and mixtures with additional flame retardants. The compositions are especially useful for the manufacture of flame retardant compounds based on polyfunctional epoxides or polycondensates like polyesters, polyamides and polycarbonates.

A composition which comprises
- a) an aminoguanidine phenylphosphinate salt of formula (I)
- wherein
- R1-R5 independently of one another represent hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of C1-C4alkyl, hydroxy, hydroxy-C1-C4alkyl and C1-C4alkoxy;
- R6-R10 independently of one another represent hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of C1-C4alkyl, phenyl, phenyl-C1-C4alkyl, (C1-C4alkyl)1-3phenyl and (C1-C4alkyl)1-2hydroxyphenyl;
- and
- x represents a number between 1.0 and 2.0;
- and
- b) a polymer substrate.
A process for imparting flame retardancy to a hardened polyfunctional epoxide composition, which process comprises adding to the composition an aminoguanidine phenylphosphinate salt (I)
- wherein
- R1-R5 Independently of one another represent hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of C1-C4alkyl, hydroxy, hydroxy-C1-C4alkyl and C1-C4alkoxy;
- R6-R10 independently of one another represent hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of C1-C4alkyl, phenyl,phenyl-C1-C4alkyl,(C1-C4alkyl)1-3phenyl and (C1-C4alkyl) 1-2 hydroxyphenyl;
- and
- x represents a number between 1.0 and 2.0.
An aminoauanidine ohenvlohosohinate salt of formula (I)
- wherein
- R1-R5 independently of one another represent hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of C1-C4alkyl, hydroxy, hydroxy-C1-C4alkyl and C1-C4alkoxy;
- R6-R10 independently of one another represent hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of C1-C4alkyl, phenyl, phenyl-C1-C4alkyl, (C1-C4alkyl)1-3phenyl and (C1-C4alkyl)1-2hydroxyphenyl;
- and
