A surface light-emitting device (1) of the present invention includes: first light sources (2a) emitting light in one direction, a second light source (2b) emitting light in a direction orthogonal to the direction, a first light guide plate (3), and a second light guide plate (4). The plate (3) has a light-incident end surface (6) on which light emitted from the light sources (2a) is incident, at least one light-incident end surface (8) on which light emitted from the light source (2b) is incident, and a light-emitting end surface (7) which is opposite to the surface (6) and from which light entering the plate (3) is emitted. The plate (4) includes a counter end surface (9) opposite to surface (7), and carries out, from its main surface, surface-emitting of light entering the plate (4) via the surface (9).
