Brake disc implemented as a casting and method of making same

A method of making a brake disc, the method comprising the acts of:

• arranging sliding elements in a casting mold for the brake disc having a friction ring with an inner toothed ring and a neck with an outer toothed ring, the inner and outer toothed rings engaging one another with the sliding elements being interposed therebetween, the sliding elements having a U-shape with the opposing legs being interposed between the teeth and a web connecting the legs extending circumferentially so as to encompass an inner tooth of the friction ring;
• casting the brake disc in one-piece so as to enclose with an inner collar a radially inner side of the sliding elements;
• and
• machining away the inner-collar to expose the radially inner side of the sliding elements such that the friction ring and neck are materially separated from one another via the sliding elements.
