Abstract
A novel apparatus for the manufacture of high solid content lime and/or cement slurry that can be used in stabilization applications. The novel apparatus uses nozzles directed at a diffusion baffle to insure proper wetting of the lime or cement based material in order to produce a sufficiently homogenous slurry that sufficiently remains in suspension so that it can be used in stabilization applications without the need for additional mixing.
Claims34
A slurry mixing station comprising:
- a mixing tank;
- a slurry outlet pipe;
- a first nozzle directed into the mixing tank at a point that is below the level of fluid in the mixing tank during operation and adapted to inject fluid into the mixing tank;
- a second nozzle directed into the mixing tank near the first nozzle and adapted to inject a cement or lime material into the mixing tank;
- an outlet port in the mixing tank at the opposite end from the first and second nozzles;
- a recirculating pump in fluid communication with the outlet port and selectively in fluid communication with the first nozzle and the slurry output pipe;
- a mixing transfer valve adapted to selectively direct fluid from the recirculating pump to the first nozzle or the slurry output pipe;
- a diffusion baffle located within the mixing tank, wherein the diffusion baffle is located from about 2 to about 10 feet from the first and second nozzles and wherein the diffusion baffle has openings in it that are from about 1 to about 3 inches;
- wherein the first and second nozzles are each directed at the diffusion baffle such that the material exiting the second nozzle and the fluid exiting the first nozzle collide at the diffusion baffle.

- wherein the first and second nozzles are each directed at the diffusion baffle such that the material exiting the second nozzle and the fluid exiting the first nozzle collide at the diffusion baffle;
- an eductor in fluid communication with the recirculation pipe, wherein the eductor is adapted to have fluid passing through it and into the recirculation pipe and is adapted to add one or more additive to the fluid passing through the eductor.
