Program guide system with combination category search

A system for providing media asset information using media asset categories, the system comprising:

• control circuitry configured to:
• generate a list of simple categories for display on user equipment;
• identify a plurality of simple categories from the list of simple categories based on monitored user activity;
• and
• generate for display a list of combination categories, wherein each combination category in the list of combination categories is based on at least two simple categories from the plurality of identified simple categories.

A method for selecting media asset listings using media asset categories, the method comprising:

• retrieving, with control circuitry, a list of simple categories for display to a user;
• receiving, with the control circuitry, input selecting one of the simple categories from the list of simple categories;
• and
• retrieving, with the control circuitry, a combination category for display to the user, wherein the combination category includes a first simple category from the list of simple categories and a second simple category from the list of simple categories, and wherein the first and second simple categories are selectable by the user independently of each other from the list of simple categories.

A system for selecting media asset listings using media asset categories, the system comprising:

• control circuitry configured to:
• retrieve a list of simple categories for display to a user;
• receive input selecting one of the simple categories from the list of simple categories;
• and
• retrieve a combination category for display to the user, wherein the combination category includes a first simple category from the list of simple categories and a second simple category from the list, and wherein the first and second simple categories are selectable by the user independently of each other from the list of simple categories.
