Simulation with dynamic run-time accuracy adjustment

A software simulation system comprising:

• a computer comprising:
• at least one processor;
• and
• a memory storing executable instructions for:
• a plurality of processor simulation models, comprising at least a first simulation model and a second simulation model;
• and
• a controller capable of running any of said plurality of processor simulation models on said processor in any sequence,
• wherein the controller is operable to perform dynamic run-time simulation model switching between said plurality of processor simulation models and further operable to run said first simulation model for a first portion of a sequence of software instructions and operable to run said second simulation model for a second portion of said sequence of software instructions.

A system for simulating software operating on a computer system comprising:

• a computer comprising:
• at least one processor;
• and
• a memory storing executable instructions for:
• a processor component for simulating a processor of said computer system, said processor component comprising first and second simulation models for simulating said processor;
• a memory subsystem component for simulating a memory of said computer system;
• a bus component for simulating interconnection between said processor and said memory, wherein said bus component couples said processor component to said memory subsystem component;
• debugger software for providing user interaction with said processor component, wherein said processor component further comprises a controller for controlling which of said first and second simulation models is running at any given time and for switching, at run time, between said simulation models,
• wherein the controller is operable to run one simulation model for a first portion of a sequence of software instructions and further operable to run another simulation model for a second portion of said sequence of software instructions.

A software simulation system comprising:

• a computer comprising:
• at least one processor;
• and
• a memory storing executable instructions for:
• a component for simulating a subsystem of a computer system wherein said component comprises a plurality of simulation models and wherein each of said plurality of simulation models is operable for simulating said subsystem in a different manner;
• and
• a controller for controlling at run time which one of said plurality of simulation models is running on a computer processor at any given time, and
• wherein the controller is operable to run one simulation model for a first portion of a sequence of software instructions and further operable to run another simulation model for a second portion of said sequence of software instructions.
