Abstract
A method to confirm delivery of data to a receiving device via a sending socket is disclosed. One embodiment of the method comprises determining when a predetermined amount of data has been removed from a send buffer of the sending socket and sending a confirmation when the predetermined amount of data has been removed from the send buffer. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Claims16
A method to confirm delivery of data from a sending device to a receiving device via a sending socket, the sending socket being associated with the sending device and having a send buffer, the method comprising:
- writing the data to be delivered to the send buffer;
- removing the data from the send buffer in response to receiving, at the sending socket, an acknowledgement from a receiving socket of the receiving device that the receiving socket has received the data;
- using a standard socket application programming interface (API) command, determining when available space in the send buffer reaches a threshold, said threshold being based at least in part on the size of the send buffer, to indicate that the data has been removed from the send buffer;
- and
- using the standard socket API command, informing a confirmation delivery application of the sending device when the available space in the send buffer reaches the threshold to thereby confirm delivery of the data.
A processing system comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a non-transitory storage medium that stores instructions which, if executed by the processor, will cause the processing system to perform a plurality of operations to confirm delivery of data from a sending device to a receiving device via a sending socket, the sending socket being associated with the sending device and having a send buffer, the plurality of operations comprising:
- writing the data to be delivered to the send buffer;
- removing the data from the send buffer in response to receiving, at the sending socket, an acknowledgement from a receiving socket of the receiving device that the receiving socket has received the data;
- using a standard socket application programming interface (API) command, determining when available space in the send buffer reaches a threshold, said threshold being based at least in part on the size of the send buffer, to indicate that the data has been removed from the send buffer;
- and
- using the standard socket API command, informing a confirmation delivery application of the sending device when the available space in the send buffer reaches the threshold to thereby confirm delivery of the data.
