The invention relates to peptides which bind to MHC Class I and to MHC Class II molecules. These peptides are useful in different therapeutic and diagnostic contexts.

A method for recombinantly producing an NY-ESO-1 protein comprising transforming or transfecting a cell with a nucleic acid molecule which consists of a nucleotide sequence which encodes a part of the protein encoded by the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1, operably linked to a promoter, in an amount sufficient to express said protein, culturing said cell to recombinantly produce said NY-ESO-1 protein, and isolating said NY-ESO-1 protein.
