Abstract
A system includes a rack, one or more computer systems mounted in the rack, and two or more alternating current (AC) fans mounted in the rack. The AC fans move air through the computer systems mounted in the rack. At least one of the AC fans can move air through at least two of the computer systems mounted in the rack.
Claims28
A system, comprising:
- a rack comprising a rack enclosure, the rack enclosure comprising a rear door;
- two or more computer systems mounted in the rack;
- two or more alternating current (AC) fans coupled to the rack, wherein at least one of the AC fans is configured to move air through at least two of the computer systems mounted in the rack,
- wherein the two or more AC fans are mounted on the rear door of the rack enclosure, wherein the two or more AC fans are configured to create a low pressure zone in a rear portion of the rack enclosure, wherein the air entering the two or more AC fans is inside the rack enclosure, wherein the air exiting the fans is outside the rack enclosure such that the two or more AC fans expel air from the rack enclosure.

A system, comprising:
- a rack comprising a rack enclosure, the rack enclosure comprising a rear door;
- one or more computer systems mounted in the rack;
- two or more fans coupled to the rack at an angular orientation, wherein at least one of the fans is configured to move air through at least two of the computer systems mounted in the rack,
- wherein the two or more fans are mounted on the rear door of the rack enclosure, wherein the two or more fans are configured to create a low pressure zone in a rear portion of the rack enclosure, wherein the air entering the two or more fans is inside the rack enclosure, wherein the air exiting the two or more fans is outside the rack enclosure such that the two or more fans expel air from the rack enclosure.
1 more element
A system for providing air flow through computer systems in a rack, comprising:
- a rear door configured to form part of a rack enclosure of the rack;
- and
- two or more fan modules, wherein each of at least one of the fan modules comprises a fan chassis and one or more fans,
- wherein the rear door is configured to hold at least one of the fan modules at an angle with respect to the rack,
- wherein the two or more fan modules are mounted on the rear door of the rack enclosure, wherein the two or more fan modules are configurable to create a low pressure zone in a rear portion of the rack enclosure, wherein the air entering the two or more fans is inside the rack enclosure, wherein the air exiting the two or more fans is outside the rack enclosure such that the two or more fans expel air from the rack enclosure.
2 more elements
A method, comprising:
- coupling two or more alternating current (AC) fans to a rack such that the AC fans are in an angular orientation relative to the rack, wherein the rack comprises a rack enclosure, wherein the rack enclosure comprises a rear door;
- and
- operating the two or more AC fans to move air through computer systems in the rack, wherein at least one of the AC fans is configured to move air through at least two of the computer systems mounted in the rack,
- wherein the two or more AC fans are mounted on the rear door of the rack enclosure, wherein the two or more AC fans are configured to create a low pressure zone in a rear portion of the rack enclosure, wherein the air entering the two or more AC fans is inside the rack enclosure, wherein the air exiting the two or more AC fans is outside the rack enclosure such that the two or more AC fans expel air from the rack enclosure.
