Modular absorption heat sink devices for passive cooling of servers and other electronics

A thermal management system, comprising:

• a server with a first processor operating to generate a quantity of heat and with a second processor operating to generate a quantity of heat less than the quantity of heat generated by the first processor, wherein the server further comprises a first heat sink mounted on the first processor and a second heat sink mounted on the second processor;
• a data collection tool collecting operating data for the first and second processors;
• and
• a load control module processing the operating data and, in response, provisioning load to the first and second processors to direct a greater amount of the provisioned load to the first processor than to the second processor,
• wherein the first and second heat sinks each comprises a passive absorption cooling system,
• wherein the cooling system of the first heat sink has a greater cooling capacity than the cooling system of the second heat sink, and
• wherein the quantities of heat generated by the first and second processors activate absorption refrigeration cycles within the first and second heat sinks;
• and wherein the heat sinks each comprise a shell with a generator vessel, an absorber vessel, and a bubble pump, the generator vessel containing a concentrate solution of water and salt, and the absorber vessel connected to the generator vessel via the bubble pump, wherein the bubble pump has an inlet in the generator vessel and an outlet in the absorber vessel.

A thermal management system for use in a computer network, comprising:

• a communications network;
• a server with a first processor operating to generate a quantity of heat and a second processor operating to generate a quantity of heat less than the quantity of heat generated by the first processor, wherein the server further comprises a first heat sink mounted on the first processor and a second heat sink mounted on the second processor;
• a data collection tool provided in the server operating to collect and transmit operating data for the first and second processors over the communications network;
• and
• a load control module processing the transmitted operating data and, based on the processing, provisioning load to the first and second processors to direct a greater amount of the provisioned load to the first processor than to the second processor,
• wherein the quantities of heat generated by the first and second processors activate absorption refrigeration cycles within the first and second heat sinks, and
• wherein the first processor comprises a high-range central processing unit (CPU) and the second processor comprises a medium range CPU;
• and wherein the heat sinks each comprise a shell with a generator vessel, an absorber vessel, and a bubble pump, the generator vessel containing a concentrate solution of water and salt, and the absorber vessel connected to the generator vessel via the bubble pump, wherein the bubble pump has an inlet in the generator vessel and an outlet in the absorber vessel.
