Abstract
A heat engine can have a fuel selector valve for selecting between a first fuel and a second fuel. Making the selection with the fuel selector valve can also determine a flow path through the heat engine, there being two different paths, each configured for a different fuel. A burner nozzle can form a single unit with the fuel selector valve. In some embodiments the burner nozzle can also form a single unit with an outlet valve.
Claims23
A dual fuel heating source comprising:
- a fuel selector valve for rotatingly selecting between a first fuel and a second fuel to be used by the heating source;
- and
- a burner nozzle having a first orifice at an outlet end and two flow configurations through the burner nozzle, the first flow configuration configured for injecting the first fuel through the outlet end into a combustion chamber and the second flow configuration configured for injecting the second fuel through the outlet end into the combustion chamber wherein selecting the fuel with the fuel selector valve also determines the flow configuration through the burner nozzle, the burner nozzle forming a single unit with the fuel selector valve and configured to rotate about a same axis of rotation, wherein the first orifice defines an axis parallel with the axis of rotation.
A dual fuel heating source comprising:
- a fuel selector valve for rotatingly selecting between a first fuel and a second fuel to be used by the heating source;
- a burner nozzle having two flow configurations through the burner nozzle, the first flow configuration configured for injecting the first fuel into a combustion chamber and the second flow configuration configured for injecting the second fuel into the combustion chamber wherein selecting the fuel with the fuel selector valve also determines the flow configuration through the burner nozzle, the burner nozzle forming a single unit with the fuel selector valve and configured to rotate about a same axis of rotation;
- and
- an air shutter configured for adjustment by the rotation of the burner nozzle.

A dual fuel heating source comprising:
- a fuel selector valve for rotatingly selecting between a first fuel and a second fuel to be used by the heating source;
- and
- a burner nozzle having two flow configurations through the burner nozzle, the first flow configuration configured for injecting the first fuel into a combustion chamber and the second flow configuration configured for injecting the second fuel into the combustion chamber wherein selecting the fuel with the fuel selector valve also determines the flow configuration through the burner nozzle, the burner nozzle forming a single unit with the fuel selector valve and configured to rotate about a same axis of rotation, the burner nozzle having a first chamber and a second chamber, each chamber configured for receiving a flow of fuel therethrough and having an exit;
- wherein the second chamber is substantially within the first chamber and wherein the exit of the second chamber protrudes past the exit of the first chamber.

A dual fuel heating source comprising:
- a fuel selector valve for rotatingly selecting between a first fuel and a second fuel to be used by the heating source;
- a burner nozzle having two flow configurations through the burner nozzle, the first flow configuration configured for injecting the first fuel into a combustion chamber and the second flow configuration configured for injecting the second fuel into the combustion chamber wherein selecting the fuel with the fuel selector valve also determines the flow configuration through the burner nozzle, the burner nozzle forming a single unit with the fuel selector valve and configured to rotate about a same axis of rotation;
- wherein the fuel selector valve is configured to open one of two inputs to thereby permit flow through the opened input and prevent flow through the other;
- and
- an outlet valve configured to direct a flow of fuel to the burner nozzle and to an ODS, and wherein the path to the burner nozzle and ODS through the outlet valve is determined by the fuel selector valve.
