Abstract
A backlight unit and a display apparatus including the backlight unit are provided. The backlight unit includes: a light source unit which includes at least one light source which emits light, and a gap maintaining unit; a light guiding plate which guides the light emitted from the light source; and an elastic member which elastically biases the light source unit toward the light guiding plate so that the gap maintaining unit maintains a gap between the light source and the light guiding plate.

A display apparatus comprises:
- a display panel;
- a video receiver which receives a video signal;
- a signal processor which processes the received video signal so that the display panel displays an image based on the video signal processed by the signal processor;
- and
- a backlight unit which provides light to the display panel,
- the backlight unit comprising:
- a light source unit which comprises a light source substrate and a plurality of light emit diodes which emit light and are disposed on the light source substrate;
- a light guiding plate which guides the light emitted from the light source;
- and
- a gap providing member which forms a gap between the plurality of light emit diodes and the light guiding plate,
- wherein the light source unit is disposed at a lateral side of the light guide plate and the gap providing member is expanded from the light source substrate toward the lateral side of the light guide plate to form the gap between the plurality of light emit diodes and the lateral side of the light guide plate.
