Abstract
Methods and apparatuses for chromatography are provided, using, for example, water as a stationary phase and carbon dioxide as the mobile phase.
Claims16
A method for separating two or more compounds in a composition, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) introducing a substantially stationary phase into a first end of a column, where the substantially stationary phase is aqueous, and such that (i) the aqueous stationary phase establishes a uniform coating on the inside walls of the column, and (ii) the aqueous stationary phase does not pool in the column;
- (b) continuously introducing a mobile phase into the first end of the column, where the mobile phase flows from the first end of the column to a second end of the column;
- and
- (c) introducing a composition comprising two or more compounds into the first end of the column such that at least one compound partitions between the mobile phase and the substantially stationary phase and elutes from the second end of the column, wherein the at least one compound is soluble in both the stationary phase and the mobile phase.
