This document describes compounds, extracts, and pharmaceutical compositions relating to Gastrodia spp., and methods for the treatment subjects having metabolic disorders or medical conditions such as Huntington's disease, a trinucleotide repeat disease or abnormal blood glucose levels.

A method of ameliorating or treating Huntington's disease in a mammalian subject in need thereof comprising administering the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of purified or chemically synthesized N6-(4-hydroxybenzyl)adenosine or a pharmaceutical salt or solvate thereof as a pharmaceutical active agent.
