Abstract
A patient bed includes a base, a patient support, and an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering the patient support relative to the base. The elevation mechanism comprises a first pair of arms and a second pair of arms, with both the pairs of arms mounted relative to the patient support and the base. The first pair of arms and the second pair of arms have pivot connections at the patient support, with the pivot connections of at least one pair of the pair of arms moving in a sinusoidal path when the patient support is raised or lowered with respect to the base.
Claims33
A patient support apparatus comprising:
- a patient support;
- and
- an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering said patient support relative to a ground surface, said elevation mechanism having a first pair of arms and a second pair of arms, said arms pivotally coupled to said patient support at a first plurality of pivot connections, each pair of said arms having a pivot shaft for pivotally mounting said arms adjacent the ground surface and a plurality of intermediate pivot connections intermediate said first pivot connections and said pivot shafts and movable relative to said pivot shafts;
- an actuator coupled to each of said pivot shafts for rotating said pivot shafts for extending or contracting said arms about said plurality of intermediate pivot connections wherein said patient support moves between uppermost raised or lowermost lowered positions, and said uppermost raised position being substantially vertically aligned with said relative lowermost lowered position.
A patient support apparatus comprising:
- a patient support;
- an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering said patient support, said elevation mechanism being pivotally coupled to said patient support at a plurality of pivot connections, and said pivot connections being moved to raised or lowered positions when said elevation mechanism raises or lowers said patient support, and each of said raised positions being substantially vertically aligned with their relative lowered positions, wherein said elevation mechanism includes a plurality of arms, said arms being pivotally coupled to said patient support at said pivot connections;
- and
- at least one actuator for driving said arms, each of said arms has an upper arm portion and a lower arm portion, said upper arm portions being pivotally mounted to said lower arm portions, said upper arm portions being pivotally mounted at said patient support by said pivot connections, and said upper arm portions being biased upwardly relative to said lower arm portions by a spring force.
A patient support apparatus comprising:
- a patient support mounted for movement relative to a floor or ground surface having a longitudinal axis, said patient support having a head-end and a foot-end, said head-end of said patient support being aligned in a first vertical plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and said foot-end being aligned in a second vertical plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and spaced from said first vertical plane;
- a base;
- an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering said patient support relative to said base;
- and
- said elevation mechanism being configured to move said patient support relative to said base in a manner to generally maintain said patient support between said first vertical plane and said second vertical plane when raising or lowering said patient support relative to said base and said elevation mechanism being substantially contained within said base when said elevation mechanism lowers said patient support to a lowermost position where said patient support is adjacent said base, and said elevation mechanism being adapted to raise said foot-end relative to said head-end or to raise said head-end relative to said foot-end.
A patient support apparatus comprising:
- a patient support mounted for movement relative to a floor or ground surface having a longitudinal axis, said patient support having a head-end and a foot-end, said head-end of said patient support being aligned in a first vertical plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and said foot-end being aligned in a second vertical plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and spaced from said first vertical plane;
- an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering said patient support relative to said floor or ground surface, said elevation mechanism comprising a first pair of arms and a second pair of arms, each of said arms having an upper arm portion and a pair of lower arm portions, one arm portion of said pair of lower arm portions being pivotally mounted about a pivot axis adjacent the ground surface offset and spaced from a pivot axis of another lower arm portion of said pair of arms adjacent the ground surface, said upper arm portions pivotally mounted to said pair of lower arm portions, and said upper arm portions pivotally mounted at said patient support;
- at least one actuator for driving each pair of lower arm portions;
- and
- wherein said elevation mechanism is configured to move said patient support relative to the floor or ground surface in a manner to generally maintain said patient support between said first vertical plane and said second vertical plane when raising or lowering said patient support relative to the floor or ground surface.
A patient support apparatus comprising:
- a patient support mounted for movement relative to a floor or ground surface having a longitudinal axis, said patient support having a head-end and a foot-end, said head-end of said patient support being aligned in a first vertical plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and said foot-end being aligned in a second vertical plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and spaced from said first vertical plane;
- an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering said patient support relative to said floor or ground surface, said elevation mechanism comprising a first pair of arms and a second pair of arms, each of said arms having an upper arm portion and a lower arm portion, said upper arm portions pivotally mounted to said lower arm portions, and said upper arm portions pivotally mounted at said patient support;
- at least one actuator for driving each pair of arms, and said actuators being selectively actuated to pivot said lower arm portions, each of said lower arm portions being connected to a respective upper arm portion by first and second linkages, and said linkages configured to pivot said upper arm portions relative to said lower arm portions when said lower arm portions are pivoted;
- and
- wherein said elevation mechanism is configured to move said patient support relative to the floor or ground surface in a manner to generally maintain said patient support between said first vertical plane and said second vertical plane when raising or lowering said patient support relative to the floor or ground surface.
A patient support apparatus comprising:
- a patient support;
- and
- an elevation mechanism for raising or lowering said patient support, said elevation mechanism comprising a first pair of arms and a second pair of arms, said first pair of arms and said second pair of arms mounted relative to said patient support, each of said arms having an upper arm portion and a lower arm portion, said upper arm portions pivotally mounted to said lower arm portions and at said patient support, each of said upper arm portions being biased upwardly relative to said lower arm portions by a biasing force, said elevation system further including an actuator cooperating with each pair of said arms, said actuators selectively actuating to pivot the lower arm portions, said lower arm portions being linked to said upper arm portions by linkages, said linkages configured to pivot said upper arm portions relative to said lower arm portions when said lower arm portions pivot.
