Cutting tap and method of making a cutting tap

A cutting tap comprising:

• an elongate tap body having an axial forward end, an axial rearward end, a central longitudinal axis and a diameter, the elongate tap body having a fluted section at the axial forward end thereof wherein the fluted section presents a flute;
• the fluted section including a chamfered fluted section beginning at and extending in an axial rearward direction from the axial forward end of the elongate body wherein the chamfered fluted section has an axial rearward termination;
• and
• the chamfered fluted section comprising a plurality of cutting threads wherein each one of the cutting threads having a cutting face terminating at a distal cutting edge, and the cutting face being defined by a transition radius having a center point and the center point of the transition radius moving radial inward relative to the distal cutting edge as the cutting thread moves in the axial rearward direction, and the transition radius ranging from between about five percent to about one hundred percent of the cutting tap diameter.
