Abstract
The present invention relates to a submount on which at least one optical component is mounted. The submount has a mounted portion that is mounted onto a substrate or base, and a protruding portion that protrudes out from the substrate or the base when the mounted portion is mounted to the substrate or base. The gripped portion is formed to enable gripping thereof. Wiring, to enable active alignment, is provided to the gripped portion, and active alignment can be carried out by powering up the optical component mounted on the submount.
Claims8
A submount assembly, comprising:
- a submount on which an optical component is mounted;
- and
- a gripping mechanism which engages the submount,
- wherein the submount is moveable via movement of the gripping mechanism in a gripping state,
- wherein the gripping mechanism is a clamp which grips a portion of top and portion of bottom of the submount;
- and
- wherein when the submount is mounted on a base, a clearance space remains between the submount and the base, the base having a recess adjacent and between two side portions of the clamp to provide the clearance space.
A submount assembly, comprising:
- a submount on which an optical component is mounted;
- and
- a gripping mechanism which engages the submount,
- wherein the submount is moveable via movement of the gripping mechanism in a gripping state
- wherein the submount comprises a mounted portion mounted on a base and a protruding portion protruding from the base,
- wherein the gripping mechanism is a clamp which grips the protruding portion,
- wherein the submount further comprises wiring electrically linked to the optical component, and
- wherein the gripping mechanism further comprises at least one electrode, such that when the submount is engaged by the gripping mechanism, the at least one electrode contacts the wiring.
A submount assembly, comprising:
- a submount on which an optical component is mounted;
- and
- a gripping mechanism which engages the submount,
- wherein the submount is moveable via movement of the gripping mechanism in a gripping state,
- wherein the submount further comprises two projections protruding from opposite sides of the submount,
- wherein the gripping mechanism is a clamp which grips at least one projection,
- wherein the submount further comprises wiring electrically linked to the optical component, and
- wherein the gripping mechanism further comprises at least one electrode, such that when the submount is engaged by the gripping mechanism, the at least one electrode contacts the wiring.
A submount assembly, comprising:
- a submount on which an optical component is mounted;
- and
- a gripping mechanism which engages the submount,
- wherein the submount is moveable via movement of the gripping mechanism in a gripping state,
- wherein the gripping mechanism is a clamp which grips opposite sides of the submount,
- wherein the submount further comprises wiring electrically linked to the optical component, and
- wherein the gripping mechanism further comprises at least one electrode, such that when the submount is engaged by the gripping mechanism, the at least one electrode contacts the wiring.
