Abstract
Liquid cooling systems and apparatus are presented. A number of embodiments are presented. In each embodiment, a heat transfer system capable of thermally coupling to heat generating components and adapted to transfer heat from the heat generating components is implemented. A variety of embodiments of the heat transfer system are presented. For example, several embodiments of a heat transfer system including electron-conducting material is presented. In one embodiment of the present invention, the electron conducting material operates under the peltier principal.
Claims20
A cooling system for cooling heat generating components comprising:
- N heat transfer units wherein more than one of the N heat transfer units includes an electron conducting material having a cold region thermally coupled to more than one heat generating components and a hot region thermally connected to a coolant pathway;
- N, or N+1 layers of one or more heat generating components per layer interleaved with the N heat transfer units such that one or more heat generating components are thermally coupled to one or more cold regions of the electron conducting materials;
- wherein heat is absorbed from the heat generating components into the cold regions of electron conducting materials, transferred to the hot regions of such electron conducting materials and transferred to a coolant circulating through the coolant pathway, the coolant becoming heated coolant;
- and
- wherein N is an integer greater than 1.
A method for cooling heat generating components in a system having N heat transfer units wherein more than one of the N heat transfer units includes an electron conducting material having a cold region thermally coupled to more than one heat generating components and a hot region thermally connected to a coolant pathway, N or N+1 layers of one or more heat generating components per layer interleaved with the N heat transfer units such that one or more heat generating components are thermally coupled to one or more cold regions of the electron conducting materials, and wherein N is an integer greater than 1;
- the method comprising the steps of:
- transferring heat from one or more heat-generating components to the cold region of one or more heat transfer units;
- transferring heat from the cold region to the hot region of the heat transfer units;
- and
- absorbing heat from the hot region into a coolant circulating through the coolant pathway, thereby heating the coolant.
