System software displacement in a virtual computer system

A method of managing communication between hardware and software resources of a computer system, said method comprising:

• running said software resources on said computer system, with said software resources including a kernel and a Console Operating System (COS), said kernel running at a system level so as to have permission to directly access said hardware resources;
• and
• selectively allowing said COS to access a subset of said hardware resources by said kernel scheduling said access in response to said kernel receiving interrupts relating to said hardware resources of said subset and forwarding, with said kernel, said interrupts to said COS to allow access to said subset of said hardware resources.

A computer storage device embodying computer software when executed by a processor implementing a method for communication between hardware and software resources of a computer system, the method comprising:

• running said software resources on said computer system, with said software resources including a kernel and a Console Operating System (COS), said kernel running at a system level so as to have permission to directly access said hardware resources;
• and
• selectively allowing said COS to access a subset of said hardware resources by said kernel scheduling said access in response to said kernel receiving interrupts relating to said hardware resources of said subset, with said interrupts being received into an address space of said computer system controlled by said kernel.

A computer storage device embodying computer software when executed by a processor implementing a method for communication between hardware and software resources of a computer system, the method comprising:

• running said software resources on said computer system, with said software resources including a kernel and a Console Operating System (COS), said kernel running at a system level so as to have permission to directly access said hardware resources;
• and
• selectively allowing said COS to access a subset of said hardware resources by said kernel scheduling said access in response to said kernel receiving interrupts relating to said hardware resources of said subset and forwarding, with said kernel, said interrupts to said COS to allow access to said subset of said hardware resources.
