Abstract
A phonon laser pumped by a thermal gradient, the phonon laser having a coherent phonon pumping media, a heat source and a heat sink. The pumping media includes an array of micro resonators and a thermal phonon emitting media.
Claims25
A phonon laser pumped by a thermal gradient, the phonon laser comprising:
- a main phonon resonator;
- a coherent phonon pumping media, the pumping media comprising:
- an array of micro resonators;
- and
- a thermal phonon emitting media, the coherent phonon pumping media being in thermal communication with the main resonator;
- a heat source being in thermal communication with the main resonator or the coherent phonon pumping media;
- and
- a heat sink being in thermal communication with the main resonator or the coherent phonon pumping media.

A phonon laser pumped by a thermal gradient, the phonon laser comprising:
- a plurality of stacked main resonators, each main resonator being formed as a ribbon or a sheet;
- a plurality of metal layers interleaved with the plurality of main resonators;
- a heat source in thermal communication with one of the main resonators or one of the metal layers;
- and
- a heat sink in thermal communication with the same resonator or metal layer as the heat source.

A phonon laser comprising:
- a phonon resonator having a first side extending between a first end and a spaced apart second end;
- a heat source in thermal communication with the first side of the phonon resonator;
- and
- a heat sink in thermal communication with the first side of the phonon resonator.

A phonon laser pumped by a thermal gradient, the phonon laser comprising:
- a first phonon resonator having a thickness and being comprised of micro spheres having a radius, the micro spheres being imbedded within a phonon conducting media;
- a hot contact in thermal communication with the first phonon resonator;
- and
- a cold contact in thermal communication with the first phonon resonator, the thickness of the first phonon resonator being at least two times larger than the radius of the micro spheres.
