Abstract
A pyrazine derivative of the following formula (I): or a salt thereof. The pyrazine compound (I) and a salt thereof of the present invention are adenosine antagonists and are useful for the prevention and/or treatment of depression, dementia (e.g. Alzheimer's disease, cerebrovascular dementia, dementia accompanying Parkinson's disease, etc.), Parkinson's disease, anxiety, pain, cerebrovascular disease (e.g. stroke, etc.), heart failure and the like.

A compound of formula (I):

- R6 is hydrogen, or optionally substituted lower alkyl;
- R7 hydrogen or halogen;
- R8 is lower alkyl;
- R2 is hydrogen;
- hydroxy;
- halogen;
- cyano;
- acyl;
- or lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, lower alkoxy, aryloxy, arylthio, aryl, heterocyclic group or amino, each of which is optionally substituted by substituent(s);
- R3 and R4 are independently hydrogen, lower alkyl or acyl;
- and
- R5 is cyano;
- or lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, aryl or heterocyclic group, each of which is optionally substituted by substituent(s);
- or a salt thereof.
