Abstract
Process for obtaining lignan from plant material by extraction with an extraction solvent and separation of the liquid fraction from the plant material. The separated liquid fraction containing the lignan product is subjected to further processing to remove cyanogenic sugars and other impurities. The resulting lignan containing product may be formulated for the treatment of various conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, lupus, and atherosclerosis.

A composition comprising:
- a lignan complex including secoisolariciresinol diglucoside;
- and
- a compound selected from the group consisting of protein, fat, ash and combinations of any thereof;
- the composition comprising between 7-24% lignan on a solids basis;
- wherein the bulk of the lignan complex is composed of components having a molecular weight below 12,000 Dalton.

- a lignan complex including secoisolaricieresinal diglcoside, the lignan extract comprising between 7-24% lignan on a solids basis;
- and
- a compound selected from the group consisting of protein, fat and ash;
- wherein the bulk of the lignan complex is composed of components having molecular weight below 12,000 Dalton.
