Abstract
Among other features, a cash dispenser includes a paper path arranged between an opening in a money box through which currency can be withdrawn for dispensing to a customer at a dispensing location that is spaced apart from the opening in the money box, the paper path including rotational shafts arranged to transfer the currency, and a housing that supports the paper path and is configured to receive the money box, the housing comprising at least two parallel spaced-apart molded side walls, the paper path having a third molded wall between the two parallel molded side walls.

Apparatus comprising
- a bill dispenser having a dispensing location at which bills are to be delivered to users,
- a bill storage chamber having a withdrawal end from which bills are to be withdrawn,
- a skew detector positioned at the withdrawal end of the bill storage chamber to detect skew in bills withdrawn from the chamber,
- a double detect mechanism positioned downstream of the skew detector to detect double bills that have been withdrawn from the chamber, after the bills have been subjected to skew detection, and
- circuitry to divert a skewed bill from being dispensed at the dispensing location.
A method comprising
- feeding a bill from a withdrawal end of a bill storage chamber and along a paper path toward a dispensing location at which bills are to be delivered to users,
- optically detecting a skew condition of the bill at a skew sensing location at the withdrawal end of the bill storage chamber,
- after the skew condition has been detected, detecting the presence of a double bill at a location between the skew sensing location and the dispensing location, and
- diverting a skewed bill from being dispensed at the dispensing location.
Apparatus comprising
- a bill dispenser having a dispensing location at which bills are to be delivered to users,
- a bill storage chamber having a withdrawal end from which bills are to be withdrawn,
- a skew detector at the end of the bill storage chamber to detect skew in bills withdrawn from the chamber,
- a double detect mechanism positioned downstream of the skew detector to detect double bills that have been withdrawn from the chamber, after the bills have been subjected to skew detection, and the double detect mechanism comprising
- a free end of an elongated finger configured to be moved by a distance that corresponds to a thickness of the bill, and
- a pair of inductively coupled elements that are configured to be moved relative to one another by motion of the elongated finger to detect the distance that corresponds to the thickness of the bill.
- a pair of inductively coupled elements that are configured to be moved relative to one another to detect the distance that corresponds to the thickness of the bill.
A method comprising
- feeding a bill from a withdrawal end of a bill storage chamber and along a paper path toward a dispensing location at which bills are to be delivered to users,
- optically detecting a skew condition of the bill at a skew sensing location at the end of the bill storage chamber,
- detecting the presence of a double bill at a double detecting location along the path, and
- diverting a skewed bill from being dispensed at the dispensing location,
- in which a decision to reject a skewed bill is made after the detecting of the skew condition and without regard to detecting whether the bill comprises a double bill.
A method comprising
- feeding a bill from a withdrawal end of a bill storage chamber and along a paper path toward a dispensing location at which bills are to be delivered to users,
- optically detecting a skew condition of the bill at a skew sensing location at the end of the bill storage chamber,
- detecting the presence of a double bill at a double detecting location along the path, the double detecting location being between the skew sensing location and the dispensing location,
- the detecting the presence of a double bill comprising
- pushing a free end of an elongated finger by an amount that corresponds to the thickness of the currency, and
- by electromagnetic coupling determining the amount of by which the free end is pushed.
A bill dispenser comprising
- a chamber to hold a stack of bills, the chamber defining a location on one side of the stack of bills from which the bills are withdrawn, then passed along a paper path and dispensed through a wall to a customer standing on the other side of the wall from the bill dispenser,
- a skew detector at the location where the bills are withdrawn from the stack, and
- a double detect mechanism positioned downstream of the skew detector to detect double bills that have been withdrawn from the chamber, after the bills have been subjected to skew detection.
A bill dispenser comprising
- a removable bill cassette,
- a vertical paper path to carry bills directly from a lower location at which the bills are dispensed from the front of the bill cassette to an upper location at which the bills are dispensed to a customer through a vertical wall, the bill cassette being held behind the paper path and above the lower location of the vertical paper path,
- a skew detector positioned at the lower location of the bill cassette to detect skew in bills withdrawn from the chamber, and
- a double detect mechanism positioned downstream of the skew detector to detect double bills that have been withdrawn from the bill cassette, after the bills have been subjected to skew detection.
