Abstract
A femtosecond laser-electron X-ray source. A high-brightness relativistic electron injector produces an electron beam pulse train. A system accelerates the electron beam pulse train. The femtosecond laser-electron X-ray source includes a high intra-cavity power, mode-locked laser and an x-ray optics system.
Claims28
A femtosecond laser-electron X-ray source for producing high-average flux x-rays, comprising:
- a high-brightness relativistic electron injector that produces a high-brightness electron beam pulse train;
- means for accelerating said high-brightness electron beam pulse train;
- a femtosecond high intra-cavity power, mode-locked laser that produces a femtosecond high intra-cavity power laser pulse train;
- said means for accelerating said high-brightness electron beam pulse train and said femtosecond high intra-cavity power, mode-locked laser operatively connected and positioned to cause said high-brightness electron beam pulse train and said femtosecond high intra-cavity power laser pulse train to collide and produce said high-average flux x-rays;
- and
- an x-ray optics system operatively connected to said means for accelerating said high-brightness electron beam pulse train and said femtosecond high intra-cavity power, mode-locked laser.
A femtosecond laser-electron X-ray source for producing high-average flux x-rays comprising:
- means for producing an electron beam pulse train,
- means for accelerating said electron beam pulse train,
- means for focusing and matching said electron beam pulse train into an x-ray interaction region,
- means for producing a seed laser pulse train,
- means utilizing said seed laser pulse train for producing an optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train, said means including a femtosecond laser,
- means for focusing said optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train into said x-ray interaction region to collide with said electron beam pulse train and produce high average flux and brightness, tunable x-rays, and
- means for timing and synchronizing said electron beam pulse train and said optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train so that they collide and produce said high average flux x-rays.
A femtosecond laser-electron X-ray source method of producing high average X-rays comprising the steps of:
- producing an electron beam pulse train,
- accelerating said electron beam pulse train,
- focusing and matching said electron beam pulse train into an x-ray interaction region,
- producing a seed laser pulse train,
- producing a femtosecond optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train utilizing said seed laser pulse train,
- focusing said femtosecond optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train into said x-ray interaction region to collide with said electron beam pulse train and produce said high average flux and brightness, tunable x-rays, and
- timing and synchronizing said electron beam pulse train and said femtosecond optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train so that said electron beam pulse train and said femtosecond optical electromagnetic wiggler laser pulse train collide in said x-ray interaction region and produce said high average flux x-rays.
