System and method for emulating telecommunications network devices

A method of emulating telecommunication network devices, comprising the steps of:

• determining whether one or more input messages have been received from a control system;
• processing the one or more received input messages using one or more levels of intelligence, including generating responses to one or more input messages using at least two of the following types of responses:
• a simple, unintelligent response, a simple, intelligent response, and a detailed logical response;
• receiving user input and providing user output;
• and
• performing database management functions.

A multi-tasking method of emulating telecommunications network devices, comprising the steps of:

• performing a number n of logical units of work to poll a network interface in order to determine whether input messages have been received from a control system;
• performing a number m of logical units of work for generating responses to said input messages, using at least two of the following types of responses:
• a simple, unintelligent response, a simple, intelligent response, and a detailed logical response;
• performing a number x of logical units of work for receiving user input and providing user output;
• and
• performing a number y of logical units of work of database management functions.

A computer usable medium bearing computer readable program code for simultaneously emulating multiple telecommunication network devices, said computer readable program code for permitting a computer system to:

• determine whether one or more input messages have been received from a control system;
• process the one or more received input messages using one or more levels of intelligence, including generating responses to one or more input messages using at least two of the following types of responses:
• a simple, unintelligent response, a simple, intelligent response, and a detailed logical response;
• receive user input and providing user output;
• and
• perform database management functions.
