Abstract
The invention comprises an alignment element for a multiple channel sight and method. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, an alignment element (456) may comprise a first prism (492) and a second prism (494). The second prism (494) may be disposed proximate to the first prism (492). An adjustment device (506) may rotate the first prism (492) with respect to the second prism (494) to deviate an image of a first channel (54, 56) at an image plane (300).
Claims23
An alignment element for a multiple channel optical system, comprising:
- a first prism having a flat back and an angled face;
- a second plies proximate to the first prism and having a flat back and an angled face, the flat backs of the prisms facing one another;
- and
- an adjustment device operable to rotate the first prism independently of the second prism to deviate an image of a first channel with respect to an image of a second channel at an image plane.
An alignment element for a multiple channel optical system, comprising:
- a first prism;
- a second prism proximate to the first prism;
- an adjustment device operable to rotate the first prism independently of the second prism to deviate an image of a first channel with respect to an image of a second channel at an image plane;
- and
- wherein the first and second prisms are of an equal power.
A multiple channel scope, comprising:
- a lens system for gathering an image of a scene;
- a first channel operable to focus the image of the scene at an image plane;
- a second channel operable to focus the image of the scene at the image plane;
- a channel selector operable to selectively direct the image of the scene into the first or second channel;
- an alignment element disposed in one of the channels, comprising:
- a first prism;
- a second prism proximate to the first prism;
- and
- an adjustment device operable to rotate the first prism independently of the second prism to deviate the image of the one channel with respect to the image of the other channel at the image plane;
- and
- wherein the first and second prisms are of an equal power.
A multiple channel scope, comprising:
- a lens system for gathering an image of a scene;
- a first channel operable to focus the image of the scene at an image plane;
- a second channel operable to focus the image of the scene at the image plane;
- a channel selector operable to selectively direct the image of the scene into the first or second channel;
- and
- an alignment element disposed in one of the channels, comprising:
- a first prism;
- a second prism proximate to the first prism;
- and
- an adjustment device operable to rotate the first prism independently of the second prism to deviate the image of the one channel with respect to the image of the other channel at the image plane.
A method of aligning an image in a multiple channel optical system, comprising the steps of:
- receiving an image in a channel;
- passing the image through a first prism;
- passing the image through a second prism proximate to the first prism;
- and
- rotating the first prism independently of the second prism to deviate the image with respect to an image of a second channel at an image plane;
- wherein the first and second prisms have an equal angle of refraction.
A multiple channel scope, comprising:

- a second channel operable to focus the image of the scene at the image plane;
- a channel selector operable to selectively direct the image of the scene into the first or second channel;
- and
- an alignment element disposed in one of the channels, comprising:
- a first prism;
- a second prism proximate to the first prism;
- and
- an adjustment device operable to rotate the first prism independently of the second prism to deviate the image of the one channel with respect to the image of the other channel at the image plane;
- the first prism having a flat back and an angled face;
- the second prism having a flat back and an angled face;
- and
- the flat backs of the prisms facing one another.
A multiple channel scope, comprising:
