A method for controlling electromagnetic radiation emissions being generated by electrical circuitry comprised in one or more subassemblies of a system assembly to reduce electromagnetic radiation emission emanating from the system assembly, the system assembly comprising a housing and a plurality of subassemblies, the subassemblies being mounted within the housing, each subassembly having at least a partial enclosure for at least partially enclosing the electrical circuitry, the enclosures and the housing being comprised of a metallic material, the method comprising the steps of:
- locating the subassembly enclosures within the housing in such a way that at least one location on each enclosure is in conductive contact with the housing;
- and
- disposing an element of lossy material between at least one subassembly enclosure and the housing, each enclosure having at least one longitudinal side that is parallel to longitudinal walls of the housing, each enclosure having at least one transverse side that is parallel to a transverse wall of the housing, the transverse dimension of each enclosure being less than the longitudinal dimension of the enclosure such that each enclosure has a transverse-to-longitudinal aspect ratio that is less than 1, the element of lossy material absorbing electromagnetic radiation emitted by the electrical circuitry of the subassemblies to thereby reduce electromagnetic radiation emissions emanating from the system assembly.
